IMPORTANT NOTICE
1. The Government of India has launched electronic Overseas Citizen of India (e-OCI) Cards in lieu of physical OCI cards for the new applicants and existing OCI card holding physical booklets.
2. The following are the useful points about e-OCI cards :
a) e-OCI card has been launched on 30.06.2026 for the new applicants and existing OCI card holding physical booklets.
b) The new e-OCI card incorporates enhanced security features and has been integrated with all the Immigration Check Posts (ICPs).
c) The holder of e-OCI card will need not carry the physical copy of the OCI card at the time of Immigration Clearance and for availing other services.
d) The e-OCI card can be downloaded by login into OCI portal (https://ociservices.gov.in
) and through the official ‘Indian Visa Su Swagatam” mobile app.
e) The physical booklets shall continue to remain valid and shall be accepted for immigration and other associated services.
3. It is informed that now onwards, only digital OCI card (e-OCI) will be issued to all new OCI applicants as well as existing physical booklet OCI Card holders.
Registration of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)
4. The Constitution of India does not allow holding Indian citizenship and citizenship of a foreign country simultaneously. Based on the recommendation of the High Level committee on Indian Diaspora, the Government of India decided to grant Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) commonly known as ‘dual citizenship’. Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) of certain category as has been specified in the Brochure who migrated from India and acquired citizenship of a foreign country other than Pakistan and Bangladesh, are eligible for grant of OCI as long as their home countries allow dual citizenship in some form or the other under their local laws.
5. Persons registered as OCI have not been given any voting rights, election to Lok Sabha/Rajya Sabha/Legislative Assembly/Council, holding Constitutional posts such as President, Vice President, Judge of Supreme Court/High Court etc. Registered OCIs shall be entitled to following benefits:
1. Multiple entry, multi-purpose lifelong visa to visit India;
2. Exemption from reporting to Police authorities for any length of stay in India; and
- Parity with NRIs in financial, economic and educational fields except in the acquisition of agricultural or plantation properties.
3. Any further benefits to OCIs will be notified by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) under section 7B(1) of the Citizenship Act, 1955.
4. A person registered as OCI is eligible to apply for grant of Indian citizenship under section 5(1)(g) of the Citizenship Act, 1955 if he/she is registered as OCI for five years and has been residing in India for one year out of the five years before making the application.
STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED FOR APPLYING OCI:
1. Visit website: https://ociservices.gov.in/
2. Click on proceed
3. Choose the requisite box (the type on which applicant want to fill the form).
4. Form will be filled in two parts: PART A and PART B
5. After completion of PART A applicant has to upload their photograph (2inch by 2 inch of size) and Signature or Thumb impression.
6. After that complete the PART B part of the form and submit the form
7. After submission of form a file No. Starting with GUY will be generated.
8. Print the application and attach all undermentioned documents:
- Form duly signed by the applicant and in case of applications for minors, applications should be signed by parents.
- Copy of documents along with original (and the attested relevant documents by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
- 2 inch by 2 inch size photograph and sample signatures on a blank page
- Fee:
Applicants in Guyana - requisite CASH (US$ or GUY$) by hand delivered applications to us at the High Commission of India, Lot 307, Church and Peter Rose Streets, Queenstown, Georgetown, Guyana on any working days between 9:30am to 11:30am with the above mentioned documents;
(Or)
Applicants from accredited countries - requisite fee to be paid through Demand Draft in favour of High Commission of India and the application, along with the required documents, should be sent by prepaid Courier to the address stated above.
ELIGIBILITY
1. Any foreign national who was citizen of India or eligible to become citizen of India on 26th, 1950.
2. Any foreigner, who, is a child, grandchild or great grandchild of such citizen of mentioned the above at S. No.1.
3. Foreign origin Spouse of a citizen of India or foreign origin spouse of an OCI cardholder and whose marriage has been registered and subsisted for a continuous period of not less than 2 years.
4. No person, who or either of whose parent or grandparent or great grandparent is or had been citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh.
5. Foreign Military/Police personnel either serving or retired will not be registered as OCI card holder
OCI card holders are not entitled for the following:
1. OCI cardholders are not entitled to vote in India.
2. OCI cardholders need special permission to undertake Research Work, Mountaineering, Missionary Work, Tabligh Work, and Journalism.
3. OCI cardholder need permission to visit Protected/Restricted Area Notified by Government of India.
4. OCI cardholder cannot acquire agricultural and plantation properties in India.
PIO to OCI Conversion
Effective 1st January, 2026 PIO Card holders are advised to apply for fresh OCI card.
Required documents for OCI Card for Adult (who never held Indian Passport/ Foreign Nationals with Indian Ancestors):
1. Duly filled online, printed and signed application: https://ociservices.gov.in/welcome
2. Indian Passport copy, Immigration Pass or any other proof of Person of Indian Origin of Parents/Grandparents/Great Grandparents with documentary proof of relationship with them such as Birth Certificate (all documents must be apostle by Foreign Office and if issued in India, must be attested by concerned State Home Department).
3. Current Passport copy and Original.
4. 2 photographs.
5. Copy of Address proof of current place of stay (such as Utility Bill/ Rent Lease/ Driving License/ Bank Statement etc.).

Required documents for re-issuance of OCI for Adults:
1. Duly filled online, printed and signed application: https://ociservices.gov.in/welcome
2. Original and copy of OCI Card.
3. Original and copy of Current Passport.
4. 2 photographs.
5. Copy of Address proof of current place of stay (such as Utility Bill/ Rent Lease/ Driving License/ Bank Statement etc).
Cash is accepted only by walk-in applicants. In case of Postal/Courier Application, Bank Draft will be accepted in the name of ‘High Commission of India, Georgetown'.
Upload documents in online system only in following cases:
1. Each time when a new passport is issued.
2. Once after completing 50 years of age.
In the above cases, an OCI cardholder is required to upload on the OCI Portal online a copy of the new passport and most recent photograph each time when a new passport is issued.
3. Foreign origin Spouse of citizen of India or OCI cardholder, each time a new passport is issued.
In this case following documents need to be uploaded on the OCI portal:
- Copy of new Passport.
- Latest photograph.
- Notarized declaration that their marriage is still subsisting.
- Copy of previous OCI card.
- Copy of Indian Passport or OCI Card of Indian spouse.
For the updating of OCI information cases on the OCI Portal, all the above services will be provided on gratis basis.
The uploading of these documents may be done within three months of receipt of the new passport. Applications submitted after three months will attract a fee of USD 28 / GYD 5,900.
There will be no restriction on the OCI cardholder to travel to/from India during the period from the date of issue of new passport till the date of final acknowledgment of his/her documents in the online system.
Required documents for OCI Card for Adult (former Indian National):
1. Duly filled online, printed and signed application: https://ociservices.gov.in/welcome
2. Surrendered Indian Passport copy.
3. Surrender Certificate (Renunciation of Indian Citizenship Certificate)
4. Original & copy of Certificate of Citizenship (apostle by local Foreign Office).
5. Present Passport copy and original.
6. 2 photographs.
7. Copy of Address proof of current place of stay (such as Utility Bill/ Rent Lease/ Driving License/ Bank Statement etc.).
Required documents for OCI Card for Adult (who never held Indian Passport/ Foreign Nationals with Indian Ancestors):

Indian Passport copy, Immigration Pass or any other proof of Person of Indian Origin of Parents/Grandparents/Great Grandparents with documentary proof of relationship with them such as Birth Certificate (all documents must be apostle by Foreign Office if issued out of India and if issued in India, must be attested by concerned State Home Department).
3. Parents’ Marriage Certificate (must be apostle by Foreign Office if issued out of India and if issued in India, must be attested by concerned State Home Department).
4. Birth Certificate apostle by Foreign Office.
5. Current Passport copy and original of Minor.
6. Copy of current Passport of both Parents.

Required documents for Foreign Spouse of Person of Indian Origin (Holder of Indian Passport of OCI Card):
1. Copy of Indian Passport or OCI Card of Indian Spouse.
2. Marriage Certificate, issued outside India, must be apostle by Foreign Office and if issued in India, must be attested by concerned State Home Department.
3. Notarized Sworn Affidavit Form (CLICK HERE)
