NRI Certificate will be provided only to Indian Passport holders. For non-Indian passport holders, having OCI card, NRI certificate will be issued only for admission to their family members in India at the Indian University under NRI Quota (Link for the specimenpdf icon). 

How to Apply: 


Fill up Miscellaneous application form duly signed and paste one photo https://hcigeorgetown.gov.in/pdf/application_forms/Miscellaneous_Form.pdf pdf icon and fill it up carefully. Each applicant is required to fill up separate Miscellaneous application form and affix his/her photograph on the same.


On the basis of the Indian passport held, applicants may submit a list of their entry/exit into/from India to confirm length of total stay in foreign country during a particular financial year (April to March). In case of any doubt, the case will be referred to the concerned agencies in India for clarification, which might delay issuance of NRI certificate. (Entry/Exit List Linkpdf icon)


Applicants with Indian passport may also submit an affidavit/declaration that they have stayed abroad for more than 182 days during a particular financial year (April to March).


Applicants, who want attestation of document provided by an Indian University to get NRI sponsored admission for their relatives in India, may provide the same in original with a photocopy. Those who don’t have a proforma from the Indian University will be issued one as per Embassy format. Applicants must provide a proof that a certificate is required for admission in Indian University under NRI Quota.


Notarized photocopies of first five pages and last two pages of Applicant’s current valid passport, and notarized photocopy of the document showing valid US Visa Status.


Notarized photocopy of any of the following documents as proof of residence: Driving License, Utility Bill, Lease Agreement, State Identity Card or Mortgage Deed.


Photocopies of these documents may be attached with the application.  Ensure that photocopies of these documents are legible.


Fee:   A non-refundable fee of US$25.00 (Twenty-Five Only) and an additional fee of US$2.00 (Two Only) towards Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) per application. The fees may be paid as two separate money order/cashiers’ cheque, drawn separately towards fee and ICWF, in favour of High Commission of India, Georgetown.


Processing time: Ten working days from the date of receipt of postal mail at the High Commission subject to submission of all requisite documents by applicants.


Please send in the application enclosing a trackable pre-paid self-addressed return mailing envelope to Consular Section, High Commission of India, 307, Church and Peter Rose Street, Queenstown, Georgetown applications will be send back indicating the requisites to complete those.
